Five People Struck by Mercedes In Miami Beach
On Sunday, a suspected DUI driver is responsible for five people being injured in Miami Beach. Two of the people injured were infants.
As reported in a story by Miami’s local CBS station, the driver of a black Mercedes jumped the sidewalk, hit a parking meter and mowed down five people before striking a stand of palm trees and coming to a stop.
The accident happened at approximately 3:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon. Neighbors at a nearby apartment complex heard the crash and came running to assist those who had been hurt. One of the apartment dwellers who responded, Jason Terrence, had been wearing only a towel at the time. He told reporters that he had reacted purely on the instinct of helping those in need. One of those who was hurt was an elderly woman with a head injury,
The driver was unresponsive but was later revived by EMT’s.
Those who had been struck by the suspected DUI driver were rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital for treatment. While the adults involved in the crash are said to be in stable condition, both infants are listed in critical condition.
The adult male driver of the Mercedes was also transported to Jackson Memorial and is said to have non-life threatening injuries.
DUI Investigators are currently working with the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office. Formal charges against the suspected DUI driver, who has not yet been identified by authorities, are still pending at this time. We hope that all of those affected by the crash get the help that they need.
